Cognitive Training Power

Rather than simply educating or trying to change a person’s behaviors (i.e. the symptoms) like other online programs, SelfHelpWorks’ proprietary evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Training—a derivative of CBT—addresses the beliefs, attitudes and issues that both inhibit and drive behavior. The programs are designed to take a participant, regardless of their current readiness to change, and move them into action. The result is the development of intrinsic motivation and a subsequent change in the cognitive and behavioral response to all the unhealthy triggers that our lives serve up to us.

Case Study Summary

Condition-appropriate SelfHelpWorks courses were offered to the members of a large wellness program based on their Health Risk Assessment (HRA) scores. The 60,000-plus members who subsequently completed a SelfHelpWorks course were given another HRA the following year. The pre-course and post-course HRA scores were compared, with the following results…

  • 47% reported lower levels of stress.
  • Of those members not meeting the minimum recommended physical activity requirements prior to completing the program, 77% reported increased physical activity levels on the next HRA.
  • 33% of tobacco users reported that they had quit smoking.
  • 53% decreased their body mass index (BMI) by over 5%. On average, they decreased their BMI by 8%. Of just those members initially considered obese (BMI > 30), 62% reduced their BMI and their average reduction was 12%.
  • 52% reported reduced levels of alcohol consumption.

PersonalCoach™ Intelligent Software

During appropriate programs SelfHelpWorks’ proprietary intelligent software, PersonalCoach, is used to keep participants on track. PersonalCoach uses questionnaires to learn about the participant’s coaching needs at that point in time. Then, based on their answers, the system selects e-mail and audio support to match those specific coaching needs and delivers them directly to the participant.

Live User Support

A trained support team is available by phone and email to provide course-related and technical help, and course questions are triaged to SelfHelpWorks instructors as needed.

Real-Time Reporting

An online admin panel gives you 24/7 access to real-time participation reports, allowing you to make informed decisions so you can optimize your wellness program design and maximize your results. Individual privacy is maintained in accordance with HIPAA requirements. Customized data feeds are also available for incentive tracking purposes, or for use by your live coaches.
